Cardmaking: Red Challenge

February's Challenge on the Michael Strong Yahoo group is to create a 90% red card.

Using a textured cardstock background, my stamped Cloisonne Pot MS318EZ was heat-embossed with a dark cherry-red Japanese Lacquer embossing powder. The pot shape has been cut apart, to create a lid, and both parts were adhered with segments of Zots (clear adhesive dots). So what to put inside the pot? I didn't have any heart stamps.

Some roses ... quilling roses, or should I say quilled-roses with a touch of Sakura Gellyroll pen around their edges.

The little round-petalled flowers are simply punch-outs, i.e. like those you punch a hole into paper for the ring-binders. Start with a little dab of silicone glue and with long-nose tweezers, pick up the little punch-outs and press into the silicone to form a flower. Glue a quilled tight-coil centre to finish.

The sentiment has been dry-embossed with Cuttlebug folder 'With Love'.

If you're interested in reading more on the art of quilling, my Helium article on this topic is here.

Sketch Layout Card

This is Saturday Sketch layout #22 on the Michael Strong Yahoo group. Members had the month of January to upload their cards. A poll is then available for members to vote for their choice of card to make it on the group's home-page for a month.

Items used: M.S. Cloisonne Flower stamp on both hot pink and white cardstocks. After heat-embossing the white cardstock I've sponged with a deep pink ink.

Provocraft's Swiss Dots embossing folder; Martha Stewart doily lace edge punch; Fred Mullet's Lavender Pearl embossing powder, and a dragonfly brad from SkyBluePink.
